I have a confession: I’m on my fourth blender.
Ever since I took a bunch of frozen fruits, added some sort of liquid, and mashed them into a drinkable substance (circa 2014, freshman year of college), I can’t seem to keep one blender loyal to me.
Serves me right; I use them daily, work them as hard as I can to create a thick consistency (i.e. more difficult to blend), and I don’t give them breaks. Not even in the winter.
But my love for smoothies runs deeper than my blender budget; so I will buy more as necessary to get my breakfast fix.
The only reason this mango smoothie will make it onto the blog is because it’s my current favorite. I am a fickle, shallow, breakfast-philanderer.
And I will never change.
This recipe tastes like the orange creamsicles of late-90s ice cream trucks, elevated with a touch of spicy fresh ginger.
It can be taken on the go, it’s healthy and it’s refreshing for a long, muggy ride to work.
It’s great as a post-workout meal, or even a snack if you’d rather skip the protein powder.
And it’s pretty, so go ahead and put it on Instagram.

Let’s make an orange mango smoothie:
Add 1 cup of orange juice to a blender (any blender, whether it’s your first or your fifth), followed by 1 cup frozen mango, ¼ of a frozen avocado, 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, 1 tablespoon vanilla protein (I use Tone It Up) and a pinch of sea salt.
If you don’t want to use protein powder, add ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract instead to get a similar flavor.
Blend for 30 seconds, scrape down the sides of your blender with a spatula, then blend for another 30 seconds until it’s thick and creamy.
I apologize in advance if this recipe starts you on a 5-years-and-counting smoothie addiction, but I have to say I have no regrets.
